The New Girls on the Red Carpet

The Oscar nominations were announced yesterday (by Anne Hathway in a Chloe blazer) and though I care which films are nominated my interest mostly lies in the women up for best actress/supporting actress. I just want to know who will be walking the red carpet. While there are many red carpet professionals up for the awards (Meryl, Penelope, Sandra, Maggie...) there are two newcomers, who have are not just making their mark in film but also in fashion, to keep and eye on. They are, of course, Anna Kendrick and Carey Mulligan.
I've taken a little look at their red carpet style to date and made a prediction of what we can expect at the Academy Awards.

anna

Anna clearly likes the classic red carpet look (note how many trains she has worn so far) and generally sticks to pale colours or black. With all the red carpet events she's been attending this year her confidence seems to be growing, as she recently rocked a bright fuchsia Alberta Ferretti dress, but I think for the Oscars she'll play it safe and stick with a nude strapless gown.

carey

Carey is a little more playful in her choices than Anna, going with high-fashion labels like Lanvin and Nina Ricci. Unlike Anna she rarely chooses a big skirt, and instead likes the design features above the waist (chunky necklaces and asymmetric lines), but I'd like to see her branch out and go for this Givenchy dress. I think the colour would look amazing on her.

What are your thoughts on Anna and Carey's style so far? And who else are you looking froward to seeing Oscar night? I bet Zoe Saldana and Maggie G are the best dressed.
