A Different Side of Jen

I must admit, I'm quite bored of Jennifer Aniston. This is not because I dislike her, it's more because she's so overexposed you never get a break from her. I'm sure Jen has been on more covers of women's magazines than any other celebrity in the world (her tally of Grazia covers alone could beat off any competitor).
So it's not that I think she is boring. It's more that I'm just bored of seeing her. But the May UK cover of Harper's Bazaar does bring something new to the table, so I'm happy to see her on their cover.

jenniferanistonbyalexil

Yes, it's still just Jen (complete with her trademark hair) in a girl-next-door tank-top. But there is something about the lighting of this cover - it's like a summer evening on the beach - that's so beautiful. It's one of my favourite Aniston covers for sure.
Although, saying that, I'd much rather read the feature about Kate and Mario having a ball, than Jen's "it's time for my rebirth" interview...

Are you loving the cover too?

I Want Short Shorts

I'm slowly becoming such a miserable and cynical person. And it is all down to the fact it's almost April and I still need a coat when I go outside. Wet + cold = no fun!
Looking at images of Kate Bosworth breezing around LA does not make it any better. She's wearing shorts. And short shorts, at that. I have a gorgeous pale green lace top from Topshop that I'm dying to style with a pair of little denim cut-offs, Bosworth-style. And I need to find a crumpled t-shirt dress that hints to the Calvin Klein S/S 2010 collection. Has anyone seen a highstreet version?
So many ideas, yet so little sunshine...

Is there anyone else out there in the UK feeling the same way? And is anyone wearing short shorts yet? Apart from Kate Bosworth, of course.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

A few weeks ago I posted about the latest campaign from FTBC - Wear Your Support. If you missed it, basically a selection of the best highstreet stores in the UK (think Topshop, Whistles, M&S...) have designed pieces (and most importantly: pieces that they know their customers will love) to raise money for FTBC.
The exciting thing is that this isn't your average charity t-shirt campaign, as these clothes actually have an appeal. The Whistles cardigan [below far left] is a piece that you can wear for years.

The images that accompany the campaign were shot by Mario Testino. I was predicting Kate Moss, but it's an equally amazing result, with Sienna Miller, Kylie Minogue and Claudia Schiffer. All the images, along with the full collection, can be viewed HERE. I love Sienna's pic - she looks stunning.

And above are of my favourite pieces. The tank is from River Island (will look good with dark jeans and sandals) and the striped top is from Warehouse. I love stripes!

All pieces from the collection can be purchased from the FTBC website (HERE) and selected stores on the highstreet.
Holy Moly! I Missed an Olsen Interview?

I still haven't picked up a copy of the S/S 2010 issue of LOVE magazine. Well, actually, I lie. I have picked up many copies, in various newsagents, but because I still haven't been able to find the Daria cover I don't actually own a copy.
I think now I'll have to buy the next copy I see, Daria or no Daria, because there's an Olsen interview in the issue. How did I not know this until today? I have no idea. But I guess it's better late than never, right?

olsenlovemag

The accompanying pictures are beautiful. I love the cobalt blue jacket by Stella McCartney that MK wears. A very similar style is available at net-a-porter, for those who have a spare £1,135 to spend on a jacket. It looks stunning with the yellow shirt - you've gotta love a bit of contrasting colour action. And Ashley obviously looks gorge in the Lanvin dress.
I'm off to buy LOVE magazine...

Carey in Wonderland

carey12

I am totally obsessed with Carey Mulligan's Wonderland cover. Even though it's such a simple image, it somehow feels so fresh and new. I like black and white magazine covers a lot, the subscribers copy of ELLE is Demi Moore in black and white this month, which looks amazing.
Carey wears Prada on the cover - she seems to really love Prada. I hope there's a bit of Vionnet in her editorial too. You can't have Carey without Vionnet.
What do you think of her cover?

The New Boho

Cast your mind back a few years, to the boho era of Sienna, Mischa and Lindsay. It was all about gypsy skirts, cowboy boots, low-slung belts and the Chloe Paddington.
Sienna has left her boho days behind her, but the look has returned for summer - just like it does every year.
This updated version of boho focuses on print. Louis Vuitton's S/S 2010 collection [left] was a mass jumble of tribal prints, in zesty limes, bright blues and sugary pinks. Zoe Saldana has already worn a dress from the Vuitton collection, selecting a classic black blazer as her only accessory.
And whilst Sienna was the boho poster-girl last time around, it's Nicole Richie who's leading the pack for 2010. She's been wearing lots of 60's and 70's inspired prints lately, especially in warm tones of orange, red and brown. And this look runs throughout her House of Harlow 1960 and Winter Kate collections, which are great labels for boho basics.

Hit and Miss of the Week: I Love You VB

This week was a lot better than the last, and I only had to use a 'miss' twice. My favourite look of the week has to be Victoria Beckham's airport outfit. There was no flying cap, but she did show off some fabulous trousers. This look was then done again, a few days later, by Cheryl Cole. Her version has nothing on VB's, however.
And also this week, Kristen Stewart was spotted in her own clothes, and she looks so much better than she does on the red carpet. The issue with her must be comfort, so she really needs to find a red carpet style that she's happy with. Lets hope she finds it soon...

Emma Watson in Christopher Kane

Last night Emma Watson was photographed wearing a piece from the A/W 2010 Christopher Kane collection. It's lovely to see her in a British label, and it's quite an 'edgy' look for Emma. A very interesting fashion choice.

emma-watson-032510-7

Do you think Anna looks impressed? It would be lovely to see Emma featured in Vogue sometime soon. She had an ELLE UK cover last year, so could probably hold her own in Vogue too. What do you think?
And as for Emma's relationship with Christopher Kane, I'd love to see her now branch into Versus. I think she would look gorgeous in the red dress from the A/W collection, as well as their sexy LBD's.

Do you think Versus is a good fit for Emma too?

RSVP to The Outnet's First Birthday

Yesterday I received some very exciting news from The Outnet. As their first birthday is just around the corner, they have decided to host a one-day giveaway sale, on April 16th, where all items will be £1 / $1 / €1. Really. £1!!!

It is going to be limited (so one item per guest), and there is no word yet on what pieces will actually be in the pop-up sale. But all you have to do is RSVP to the party (RSVP list opens on theoutnet.com on March 29th, and closes April 11th) and hope that there are some goodies on the 16th. It sounds exciting, no?

In a dream world what designer item would you find on The Outnet for only £1? For me it would be a Balenciaga handbag - I've wanted one for years, and it would make my life to buy one for only £1. Somehow I don't think there will be Balenciaga in this sale though...

Maggie's Mid-Length Dress

At the London premiere of Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang Maggie Gyllenhaal looked amazing, wearing a Vionnet dress. At the moment I'm obsessed with Vionnet. It's one of my favourite labels to see on the red carpet, mostly because of Carey Mulligan.
Maggie Gyllenhaal is a great match for Vionnet, as you can see below, so no doubt she'll wear the label again. Her and Carey are both big fans of Lanvin too, perhaps they share the same stylist?

I never wear mid-length dresses or skirts, I think on me it would look terrible, I stick to minis and maxis, no in-between. But Maggie can pull off styles that generally make the rest of us look frumpy, probably because she is so cool. I imagine she's the kind of woman who thinks nothing of wearing flats in the evening. After all, she's one of the only celebrities who regularly wears print to award ceremonies.

I now really want to wear a mid-length dress, like Maggie's Vionnet. Her dress is from their Pre-Fall 2010 collection [above far left] where other mid-length numbers were paired with slouchy knee-high boots. I think it's a cool look for this sludgy March weather.

What do you think of Maggie in Vionnet?

Everyone Loves a Shoe Sale

Yesterday I wore my favourite pair of boots. They're knee-high, dark grey, have a pointed toe and are wrapped with studded straps. I call them my Mary-Kate Olsen boots (I name my shoes) because they're the shoe equivalent of the studded jacket she wore in Paris years ago.
I've had them for a long time now, and they remain the best sale purchase I've ever made. They were originally £175, I got them for £50. If I look at it from a cost-per-wear perspective they only really cost me an estimated £0.03 - I wear them a lot!
Where do such wonderful shoe bargains exist? Kurt Gieger, of course. Their sales are the best, especially if you wait right until the end, where prices hit the £30 mark. I have many KG sale shoes.
And I think I'll be buying a few more pairs, as their online sale launched yesterday. You've got your Carvela, KG by Kurt Gieger, Miss KG, Nine West, and, of course, your classic Kurt Gieger.
kgsale
In stores I'm used to a limited choice, so I'm finding it hard to decide what styles I actually want in their online sale. I'm tempted to buy the gold trainers, because I don't really own any practical shoes. But heels seem like a much more exciting choice...

What's your best sale buy ever?

The Curse is Lifted

I always say that actresses called Jessica never have any luck when it comes to fashion. Their style is either bland (Biel and Lowndes) or unflattering (Simpson). But Jessica Alba did something about it when she wore an Antonio Berardi dress at the beginning of the year. I know I've babbled on about how amazing she looked about a billion times now, but it was such a surprise.
And last night she proved that the Berardi incident was not just a fluke - she really can look fabulous. As she chose (or her stylist chose) a Proenza Schouler dress for the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival Party, last night.
albaps
I love this look on her. She wore Proenza to the Valentine's Day premiere a while back, but unfortunately ruined the look with really bad hair. This time nothing went wrong, and I think I might even like this look more than the Berardi!
I hope Jessica Alba's success will inspire Jessica Simpson. Say what you want about her, but I adore Jessica Simpson. And I'm dying to see her dressed well. Maybe a bit of Prada's A/W collection? She has the curves for it.

What do you think of Jessica Alba's look? An improvement?

Miley's Three Steps to Fashion

I'm still not feeling 100% (which is probably quite clear, as I'm writing about Miley Cyrus) but I can't neglect the blog for another day. So here is a Miley Cyrus post. Yes, really, Miley Cyrus.
Normally she's someone I would never imagine writing about, but did you see her at the Oscars? She looked pretty good in her custom Jenny Packham dress. And since then I've been noticing her style a lot more. Perhaps she's working with a new stylist? Or maybe her taste just matured, but she's now working the LA hippy look that's popular with Kate Hudson. And it works for Miley.

First Miley showed up at the Oscars in a frothy number that proved she could do red carpet glamour. I approved, but she made a real style statement by wearing Isabel Marant on Good Morning America.

The fashion snob inside me was thinking "Miley Cyrus? Wearing Isabel Marant? Just no!" but she looks good, so I have to love it. I'm happy for the Miley's of the world to wear Marant if they do it well. Just as I'd be happy for Heidi Montag to carry a Birkin if she did it justice. Which sadly she does not.

And finally, Miley was spotted out and about carrying this very pretty embellished handbag. I can easily imagine Kate Hudson carrying this bag, and you know I love Kate Hudson. When did Miley develop such good taste?

What I'd like to see her in next: Dress by Matthew Williamson; Skirt by Marc by Marc Jacobs; Top by Proenza Schouler; Heels by Jimmy Choo; Bangle by Kenneth Jay Lane. All from net-a-porter.com

What do you think? Have I gone insane or is Miley actually looking pretty damn cool right now? Which labels would you like to see her wear next?

The Cheats Guide to Blogging

I know, I know, it's rather lazy of me to just post a few images from the new Vogue Paris - though they are very nice images. But I'm not feeling very well, and unfortunately I can't think fashion when I'm having a sneezing fit every 30 seconds.
Hopefully with the help of paracetamol, Soothers (strawberry flavour, if you wondered) and the SATC season 6 boxset I'll be back to blogging tomorrow. Until then enjoy the wonderful Natasha Poly, I think her and Naomi Campbell might just be my favourite models of all time...

Hit and Miss of the Week: Miss, Miss, Yawn...

This hasn't been a very good week. It's mostly my fault, as I posted all the best looks (like Jennifer in Donna Karan and SJP in Marchesa) during the week. So the Hit & Miss is basically put together with the week's leftovers, These include Katherine Heigl in a very princess-y dress, Heidi Montag carrying a Hermes bag (yes, I know, life's unfair) and Madonna in very tight thigh-high boots. It's not an inspiring selection. I just hope you've all had a more stylish week...

Five Years Ago

Looking at this Kate Moss shoot from the March 2005 issue of W you notice how much Lara Stone looks like Kate. If I saw the second image in a magazine now I'd probably think it was Lara at first. It's those bleached brows.
I love looking at 'vintage' Kate Moss editorials just as much as I love flicking through old copies of W. Either activity is a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

SJP: Two Dresses, One Day

Yesterday Sarah Jessica Parker was busy promoting SATC2, with Cynthia and Kristen, out in Las Vegas. Getting into the Carrie Bradshaw mindset she wore not one, but two fabulous frocks on the red carpet. Starting with a yellow Lanvin mini and then moving onto a black Marchesa number.

sjp1

I'm not looking froward to the second movie at all, but I am excited to see what the four ladies wear as they're promoting the sequel. You can always count on SJP to rock a pretty dress.

Wear Your Support

I'm sure you're all aware of the fantastic work Breakthrough Breast Cancer have done since launching in 1996. Last year their annual campaign raised £1.2 million, and this year they're hoping to top that with their “Wear your support” collection.
British retailers, including River Island, Topshop, Whistles and My-wardrobe.com have all designed limited edition black and white pieces for “Wear your support”.
They're a lot more fashionable than your average charity t-shirts, and you can wear them again and again - who doesn't need a LBD or a striped cardigan in their wardrobe?

From above let: Vest by Topshop; Scarf by River Island; LBD by Olivia Rubin at My-Wardrobe; Cardigan by Whistles.

The online shop ( www.fashiontargetsbreastcancer.org.uk) opens on March 29th, when the campaign goes live. And Mario Testino has photographed three famous women for the project. Their identity is top secret at the moment, but as soon as I know who they are you will too. I'm hoping one is Kate Moss. We know her and Mario are good friends...
Kristen and Dakota's Runaway Fashion

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning are on the road together promoting their new movie, The Runaways. Though I have high hopes for Dakota's style (and am finally starting to 'get' Kristen), I haven't been all that enthusiastic about their red carpet looks, so far.
Kristen is rocking the glam-grunge style, with lots of messy hair, short skirts, sequins and rather a lot of Pucci.
Dakota is going for a more romantic feel. So far her dresses have had a prom-vibe to them, with lots of wide skirts, sweetheart necklines and dainty embellishment.
It's not that I think they're doing a bad job on the red carpet, far from it. But I feel like they're not giving it their all - there's a spark missing.
If they played this the right way they could be are really exciting red-carpet-duo. Think Keira and Sienna when they were promoting The Edge of Love.
I've put together a mood board of what I'm thinking for them:

runaways

1. Matthew Williamson dress; net-a-porter.com. 2. Pippa Small bracelet; matchesfashion.com. 3. Floral beaded jacket; topshop.com. 4. Nina Ricci satin trousers; theoutnet.com. 5. Demi on the Biggest Chair, Like, Ever

Demi Moore is the April cover-girl for US Harper's Bazaar. It used to be my favourite magazine, but I haven't bought a copy since the Kate Hudson cover. I'm loving Mark Seliger's photos of Demi, though, so I might have to get this issue.
Who knew she was, one, such good friends with Giraffe's? And, two, oh so small?

It looks like she's wearing McQueen's OTT heels whilst talking to the Giraffe - as one does. And I'm loving the nude Fendi's in the image above left. Ashley Olsen recently wore them to the ELLE Style Awards and you can find the black version at Net-A-Porter. They're seriously yummy!

What do you think of Demi's shoot? I like the surreal element, it's rather Alice in Wonderland.

Jen Shuts it Down

jennifer-gerard-031610-14
No, you're not dreaming. This really is Jennifer Aniston at the premiere of The Bounty Hunter, wearing a dress that... wait for it.... isn't black! She looks better than beautiful. She's absolutely stunning in this Donna Karan dress.
The peachy shade of nude really compliments Jen's Californaia glow, and the way the dress drapes is simply flawless. You can't get much better than a Donna Karan. And I bet this style sells out everywhere today. Jennifer Aniston, unlike Lindsay Lohan, sells to women.
jennifer-gerard-031610-13
Jennifer should really pull on a bit of colour more often, don't you think? Perhaps it's time she donated all those black halterneck dresses to charity...

Amanda Wears the Isa Dress

Everytime I go on Net-A-Porter to dream shop I always turn to Roland Mouret's Isa dress. I adore the shape and the colour, and if, for some magical reason, I could really shop at Net-A-Porter the Isa would be at the top of my shopping list.
Because of it's bright colour, sexy shape, and, of course, the fact it's RM by Roland Mouret, I knew it would end up on the red carpet. I just wasn't sure who would be the first to wear it. I was hoping it would be one of my red carpet top three - Diane, Thandie or Zoe - but it actually went to Amanda Seyfried.

amanda1

She wore it to the premiere of Chloe, last night. I think she did a good job (obviously Diane/Thandie/Zoe would have worn it better, though) and is showing she has some fashion-know-how. Especially after her fabulous appearance at the Oscars.
I wonder if she'll get an invite to the Met Gala this year? She was recently in Vogue so you never know...
Do you think she deserves at Met invite? And what do you think of her style?

images from justjared.buzznet.com
Also, the Isa would look fab on Dakota Fanning too, don't you think?
