That's A Wrap

It's crazy to think that we're not just at the end of a year - but the end of a decade too. I've thought about it long and hard and these are the women I think have made the most impact in fashion this decade.

No one beats Mossy, she was the Queen of the Noughties. We're still all dressing in the Moss uniform of blazers, skinny jeans and ballet pumps. Even though there are other celebrities that inspire my wardrobe more than Kate I cannot deny her fashion power.

Love her or loathe her Victoria Beckham still holds the title of 'fashion icon'. At least she's ending the decade without those terrible hair extensions that started the WAG era.

You know they're my favourites! Normally I don't like to put MK and Ash together as a pair, but I think they've both made an equal impact on the way we dress this decade. I'm not ashamed to admit I copy their style.

I wouldn't say Sienna is currently as important as she was around 2004/5, but she still tops the best dressed lists. The Sienna obsession began with the above outfit and hopefully she'll produce some more iconic looks in the next ten years.

I find it hard to separate Carrie Bradshaw from Sarah Jessica Parker, but both women have influenced our wardrobes. Carrie is fashion escapism at its very best. I still dream about that pink de la Renta dress.

Which celebrities do you think made a big impact on fashion this decade? And who are you going to be watching over 2010?

The Paper Bag Waist Skirt

Yesterday I went sales shopping with some friends. I did Harvey Nichols and Selfridges, but I have to admit, I am the worst sales shopper ever. I love a bargain but I always get distracted by the new season clothes. And also, it's rather depressing how the sale items are always just packed into a tiny rail - presentation is vital, and sale rails never look inviting.
But I did manage to get an adorable black button-down paper bag waist skirt from the Whistles sale (for a fab £35). I'm kind of obsessed with paper bag waisted skirts at the moment because of the fabulous brown one in the Fendi S/S 2010 collection. My skirt is slightly less 'baggy' around the waist than the Fendi one, which is a shame, but it's still very sweet.

I have an odd relationship with Fendi, because it is probably the only big name label that I pay such little attention too. I'll check out the Chanel and Vuitton collections as soon as possible but I tend to let Fendi pass by.
I actually have no idea why I do this, because season after season I love the Fendi collections. Maybe my new years resolution should be to show Fendi some more love? Because, the S/S 2010 collection is stunning. And I love love love the shoes.

Anyone else find any good sale items so far?

Let the Wardrobe Lusting Begin

Jude and Sienna are back on. It's official, they're in Barbados together.

jude-law-sienna-miller-barbados-02

This is good news for us as it means Sienna is likely to have a brilliant wardrobe throughout 2010 (she's always more stylish when dating Jude). This is good news for Jude because, well, Sienna makes him cool. And this is good news for Sienna because she looks very happy in the above image.

Opinions were split back in November about the possibility of them getting back together, but to me this is good news. If they can do it then Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson could possibly work things out too.

Who else is now totally excited to see what Sienna wears when they're back in London?

Merry Christmas

I'm taking a Christmas break from today. I will be back next Monday, hopefully with my blogging batteries fully recharged.
I hope you all have a lovely Christmas, whatever you are planning on doing.
And remember, all that extra chocolate you're eating can be burned off in the January sales....

Totally Buggin'

It's such sad news about Brittany Murphy. Everyone must watch Clueless (my favourite film ever) in her honour at least once today.

Hit and Miss of the Week: Last of 2009

This is the last hit and miss of the year. So who has been making a good final impression?
Nicole Richie seems to be back to business, her business being getting papped in great outfits. Then there is SJP, who has been working some great accessories. Mary-Kate and Ashley were out on the red carpet, bringing a brilliant end to the year. And my other favourite, Kate Hudson, has also worked some beautiful looks this week - lots of print an interesting texture. So, a good end to 2009?

SJP I Forgive You

It feels wrong to end the year disliking Sarah Jessica Parker - it would be like me not loving the Olsens any more (style.com says that the Olsens are very important people). My Christmas wish is that the second SATC film isn't as bad as I think it will be, but even if it is a disaster at least SJP's got her fashion mojo back.
Yesterday she wore a look from the S/S 2010 Chanel collection. I don't know if this is something I would wear myself but I love it on SJP. The skirt is adorable.

She was later seen wearing the patterned tights from the collection. I don't think these looked quite as good on her as the dress did. Perhaps it's the shoes? I think these tights need clogs - odd as that is.

What do you think of SJP in Chanel?

Looking on the Bright Side

Recently I've been reading a lot of trash. I have the December issue of US Vogue sitting on my coffee table just waiting to be read, but at the moment I have the patience of a fly (I guess because it's the end of the year?) and only feel like reading gossip magazines. So I know a lot about Tiger Woods at the moment, who is in every gossip mag.

The one thing I've learnt from his affairs is that his wife, Elin Nordegren, looks amazing in aviators. I know this is possibly the most unimportant fact in the whole Tiger Woods affair story, but everyday when I open up the paper and see another picture of Elin she's always looking fabulous in her shades.

el1

Above are my two favourite Elin pairs. The top pair are by Chanel, and I seem to remember (after studying this image in the Metro last week) that the bottom pair are by Ray Ban, although I'm not 100%.
There's a great pair of Elin-style aviators by Michael Kors currently at Net-A-Porter for £89. I also think Jennifer Aniston would look good in them.

Whatever happens with her marriage at least Elin could build a great career in eyewear modelling. I'm already tempted to buy some aviators now, and they really don't suit me. We know she likes Chanel and we know Karl likes blondes, so who knows what might happen....

Has anyone else noticed her great taste in shades?

Stars Have a Lot of Love for Lim

Today I was talking with a friend about how great it would be to own the entire contents of Net-A-Porter.com - it would be better than winning the lottery. At the moment I'm loving all the new pieces from 3.1 Phillip Lim that they have in stock. Many of which you will recognise as they've been snapped on famous faces. Despite the fact sequins are everywhere at the moment (and are starting to make me feel a little queasy) I love the gold sequined top Lisa Love owns.

The polka-dot bra is really sweet and I adore the grey jumper with embellished shoulders. Wouldn't we all love a little Phillip Lim under the tree this Christmas?

Favourite pieces?

Nicole's Dark Side

Nicole Richie has gone brunette again, and I think she looks amazing. She's gone dark before but has stuck to blonde recently. I really wish Christina Aguilera would follow Nicole's lead - it's about time she went for a new look too.

Nicole showed off her glossy locks while promoting her line The House of Harlow 1960. I love all the gold bangles she was modeling. I'm always tempted to wear piles of bangles but whenever I do they're constantly clanging against each other and the noise annoys me.

You can buy House of Harlow at My-Wardrobe, where her bangles start from £75. I like the green design the best.

What do you think of Nicole's hair?

Hit and Miss of the Week: The Year I Fell Out With SJP

The most unpredictable thing that happened in 2009 for me is that I spent the whole year annoyed with Sarah Jessica Parker. She has always been my favourite female celebrity but I feel like she's sold out big time with the SATC movies. I want quality not quantity.
But I have to admit that she looked gorgeous in the L'Wren Scott dress she wore to a London Premiere this week, that was until she threw on a matching hat and floor-length coat.
Also this week Penelope Cruz premiered Nine in LA. It looks like she borrowed one of Jennifer Aniston's dresses for the red carpet. You can do better Pen!

Christina is a Christmas Ballerina

When I first looked at the Marc Jacobs S/S 2010 collection on style.com I wasn't that keen. This may not sound like news but I am a massive Marc Jacobs fan - so it was a big deal. But the collection is a real grower, after viewing it about 20 times I'm now completely in love with it.
One of my favourite looks from the collection is the chiffon finale dress, which Christina Ricci wore to an event the other night.

ricci

On the runway the models wore flat shoes and their hair was styled into top-knots - making them look like a parade of ballerinas. In this dress Christina looks like she should be performing in The Nutcracker - it's very festive.

And next week the 50 Best Dresses of the Year will be confirmed. This dress has made the list. But you'll have to wait until next week to find out how high it's ranked.

Also the winner of the 2009 Fashion Moment was Alexander McQueen. Interestingly second place went to Dakota Fanning, she's definitely one to watch.

The Fashion Moments of 2009

I can't actually believe 2009 is nearly over. I've been looking through the Coco's Tea Party archives and realised just how much has happened this year - but January doesn't seem that long ago. Here I've rounded up the top fashion moments from each month. Remember to vote for your favourite moment of the year - it will be interesting to see what wins...

January 2009: Marc Jacobs has Louis Vuitton Spray-Painted
In honour of the Stephen Sprouse/Vuitton collaboration the store got a little makeover. I still want one of the graffiti bags...

February 2009: Mary-Kate Olsen Wears Balmain
In the month of the Oscars MK stole all red carpet attention by wearing this Balmain dress to the Independent Spirit Awards. Note the dry shampoo in her hair - I hear this is how you get those amazing Olsen waves.

March 2009: Louis Vuitton's Bunny Ears
Some hated them, others loved them. Whichever camp you're in I'm sure you still remember them well. They were a major 09 statement.

April 2009: Topshop Opens in New York City
After a long wait Topshop finally opened its first store in the USA. So New Yorkers, are you loving it?

May 2009: Brangelina in Cannes
They're still going strong, despite the break-up stories that fill Grazia's covers every three to four weeks.

June 2009: Michael Jackson Dies
June was a crazy month. The week Michael Jackson died I literally couldn't walk down a street without a car driving past playing a Jackson song. And of course, everyone pulled out their shoulder-padded-jackets and aviator shades in honour of his style.

July 2009: Lara Stone Covers W Magazine
Everyone was happy to see a model on the cover of a fashion magazine. And 2009 has been a bit Lara crazy. Are you getting bored of her yet or are you happy to see more of her in 2010?

August 2009: Mary-Kate and Ashley in Animal Ears
You know I am a serious Olsen fan, and as expected I went crazy over the images of them in Maison Michel headbands. I like Ashley's mouse ears the best.

September 2009: Burberry Returns to London
London Fashion Week celebrated 25 years, saw the return of Burberry (who will be back again in Feb 2010) and was lucky enough to have Anna Wintour in presence. I still cannot believe I stood about a metre away from her at one point.

October 2009: Alexander McQueen's Shoes
Crazy, completely impractical, and everyone still wants them. Lady Gaga somehow even manages to do a little dance in them for the Bad Romance video.

November 2009: Dakota Fanning is Cool
As the year went on Dakota became more and more fashionable. The peek came in November when she covered Teen Vogue. I can't wait to see what she wears in 2010.
