Kids in America

Two of my favourite American designers are the 'newbies' Thakoon Panichgul and Jason Wu. Ironically neither was born in America (Thakoon was born in Thailand, Jason in Taiwan) but along with Alexander Wang they've become three of the most promising faces in American fashion.

Type "Thakoon" into Google and you get 468,000 results. His clothes have been worn by Michelle Obama, he stared in The September Issue (loved his shaky hand story) and he's created collections for Gap and Target.

For S/S 2010 his collection was filled with pretty printed day-dresses and slinky draping - which reminds me of the Balenciaga A/W 09 collection.
And I'm still in love with his S/S 09 collection. Especially the Shibari shift dress.

Jason Wu is leading the way online - with 1,410,000 Google results - likely due to the fact Michelle Obama wore one of his designs to the inaugural ball. Now even non-fashion people recognise his name.

His S/S 2010 collection is one of my favourites, because I can't resist a colourful cocktail dress. His green polka-dot number is one of the standouts of the collection - especially now that Diane Kruger has worn it. I see a lot of Oscar de la Renta's timeless elegance in his work.

What do you think of Thakoon and Jason Wu's designs?
