Who Wants a Red Capret Dress?

Everyone is suffering from Carey Mulligan fever, it seems. There is something very likable about Carey, and on top of that she’s really talented and dresses well on the red carpet (most of the time) which all ads up to major movie star potential.
Cast your mind back to awards season this year and you’ll remember Carey was on pretty much every red carpet that mattered. My favourite red carpet look was easily the printed monochrome Vionnet dress she wore to the BAFTA’s, where she won the award for best actress.

Carey has kindly donated this very dress to Oxfam, to raise money for their women’s projects across the world, which help to “protect, support and empower vulnerable women: campaigning against violence, empowering them to fight HIV and AIDS and offering the poorest girls the chance of education.”

The Vionnet will be displayed at Selfridges as part of the week long ‘Oxfam Curiosity Shop’ event from Friday 14 to Thursday 20 May. And bids on the dress start from £50 (although I’m certain it will go for a lot more) from 10am onwards on Thursday 13 May at www.oxfam.org.uk/curiosityshop

If you love this dress, are the same size as Carey (I guess a UK 6/8) and have the cash you should definitely make a bid. After all it’s for a great cause and the dress is one of a kind adapted from two styles that appeared in the Vionnet pre-fall 2010 collection. So no one else will have it.

How much do you think Carey’s dress will go for? And just for fun, if you could have any red carpet dress from the 2010 awards season which look would you pick? I’d go for Zoe Saldana’s Oscar dress, I dream of that Givenchy...
