One of my fashion pet hates is the phrase ‘rock chick’. It’s normally used by cheesy weeklies and teen magazines. I cringe when I read it.
Last night was the Teen Choice Awards, which along with all MTV awards always fails in the red carpet fashion stakes. There were definitely a few stars aiming for the ‘rock chick’ look on the red carpet; namely Kristen Stewart and Miley Cyrus.
I love Kristen’s skirt but the rest is a total mess, and her hair is terrible, what happened to the hair? At least she was styled slightly better than Miley, who looked like she had just robbed a branch of Claire’s Accessories. This is what happens when people try to look ‘rock chick’.
If you’re determined to do the look turn to Freida Giannini at Gucci for tips. The A/W 09 Gucci collection was filled with attitude but it was never tacky. The key is mixing fabrics in dark shades (think leather, fake fur, silk and sequins) and keeping the accessories to a minimum. Because a real ‘rock chick’ wouldn’t have time to accessorise anyway.
