Get Her a Teen Vogue Cover

I've had a very busy day and only just got the chance to have a proper look at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards red carpet. I must say the turnout last night was excellent. Normally the frocks are tacky, naff and totally disgusting, but this year there were some really desirable looks.
One of the dresses that stood out was the red Versus number worn by Miranda Cosgrove. I didn't have any idea who she actually was until I Googled her and realised she played Summer from the School of Rock. Her style has definitely improved since then, no?



If I was an editor at Teen Vogue I'd frantically be trying to get Miranda to shoot a cover. She has the child star past, the wholesome girl-next-door smile and great taste in clothes. That's just about everything Teen Vogue looks for in a cover girl.

Dakota Fanning Covers Teen Vogue

This is the second Dakota Fanning post in the space of two days. I said she had huge style potential and here she is on the Dec/Jan cover of the only good teen magazine out there, Teen Vogue - out on Nov 17th.
On the cover she wears a Gucci dress (first high heels now Gucci? My, my,my...) and a Vera Wang necklace. It's a very summery look for Decemeber, no?



I kind of prefer her in this Marc Jacobs top and D&G skirt, it looks a little more youthful.



Dakota is obviously on the cover because of Twilight. I hate to admit it but I don't 'get' the whole vampire craze*. I watched half of Twilight and got bored - and don't try the whole 'the books are better' line on me either, one chapter through and I gave up. But I'm happy for those of you who do love it, and I hope you all enjoy New Moon.

On preparing for her role in New Moon: “I wasn’t in my mirror like Zoolander, doing Blue Steel! The red contacts were enough. I read all four Twilight books in one week. It’s such a phenomenon and I wanted to be able to be a part of that.”

Kristen Stewart on working with Dakota: “Dakota is one of the most consistent actors I’ve ever worked with. I’m always better with her.”

Dakota on her career: "I want to act for the rest of my life—it’s what I love—so I have to move forward with my career. The choices that I make might not always please everyone, but I have to do what I feel is appropriate and right for the time.”

Big Grins on Teen Magazines

I haven't bought Teen Vogue in such a long time, but I still keep all my old issues, filed by date. I never throw a copy of Teen Vogue out. The November issue (which is out in the states on Oct 13th) I will definitely be buying. Jourdan and Chanel are the cover girls.


I'm a big fan of them both, especially Chanel, who had the most presence on the Burberry runway. And she has a fabulous smile!
Here are some interview snippets:

Jourdan on her pregnancy: "It was really hard. "All I could think about was what my mom was going to say, my agency, my boyfriend. When I told my mom, she started crying and blaming herself. She got pregnant with me at the same age, and she said, 'I don't want you to have to go through what I did.'"

Chanel on babies: "No babies for me until I'm in my 30s! I'm focused on my career right now. I can't even take care of my dog."

Jourdan on the tough side of the industry: "I remember last season I was about to go into a casting, and my agent phoned and said, 'Turn back. They decided they don't want any black models.' I was like, 'They're actually telling you that's the reason? Are you serious?!'"


Do you think Teen Vogue could put them on every cover from now on?

Ms Wintour says 'Do Your Homework'

Since it launched in 2003 I think Teen Vogue has easily become the best teenage magazine on the market. Sure teenagers can't afford anything featured in it but their editorials and features are far more grown up and inspirational than anything I've ever seen in Sugar etc.
And now the people at Teen Vogue have created a book on careers in fashion, The Teen Vogue Handbook: An Insider’s Guide to Careers in Fashion.



Teen Vogue editor Amy Astley says, '“The book is a useful reference guide: how to build a portfolio, dress for an interview, and land an internship.”
The book is said to include:

· A Q&A with the king of cool, Marc Jacobs

· Words of wisdom from Karl Lagerfeld and Anna Wintour

· Profiles of contributing photographers

· A list of essential beauty products from industry pros

· Advice from stylists and model scouts

· Practical advice from models, assistants and interns

Who else is dying to hear what the 'practical advice' from models is?

But really I think Anna Wintour's advice is all you need. "Do your homework, go online, visit every museum, and intern. You just need to have a love for what you’re doing. It’s not about thinking that it’s the cool thing; it’s about really believing in it," she says.

Karl follows up, “Ask yourself, Are you sure this world is for you? And are you sure you are the right person to survive in this world—the world of fashion, a world with no rules, no laws?”
