I Can't Wait Any Longer

I was meaning to wait until high quality scans from Marie Claire's amazing September issue hit the internet, but like the impatient Aries I am I gave up. I'm a massive fan of both Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen so it's impossible for me not to post on MK's three covers - even if it means using small images.
So yes, Mary-Kate scored her first September cover for the magazine (Ashley was their cover-star in September 2007 and 2009) and naturally I love it. I find it really hard to find US Marie Claire in London (last year I missed out on Ashley's cover) so fingers crossed I find a copy this time.
My favourite cover is Mary-Kate in the military jacket, but her other two are just as impressive. Below is a selection of my favourite images, but you can view the whole shoot over at marieclaire.com.

My absolute favourite image from the shoot is the above left pic of MK wearing the Givenchy boots. They are insanely hot. And then there are the other two covers. The feather-y one is my second favourite of the three. There is something about the sequin cover that is a little Mischa Barton back in The O.C days I think.

Vintage Mary-Kate

I really miss Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who are both keeping quiet at the moment. Ashley has completely vanished and we haven't had any new MK candids for a while either. For a hit of Olsen style I decided to check out the July 2005 archives at Olsens Obsessive and found this great snap of Mary-Kate back in her brunette days.

Five years ago it was all about the 'zoebot' LA boho vibe, and although MK wasn't really part of that crew she was on trend in her oversized shades and ethnic blouse. I really like the torn flared jeans, which would look great for 2010 paired with this Elizabeth and James silk shirt, available at Net-A-Porter.

Hit and Miss of the Week: Olsen's Birthday

It's been a rather interesting week in the land of celebrity. As you all probably know, Lindsay Lohan is having issues with her SCRAM bracelet, which was set off the night of the MTV Awards. At the time of this incident she was wearing a sequin embellished, flared jumpsuit - reason enough to drink, I'd say.
And it didn't stop there, as this week Catherine Zeta Jones continued her one-woman-show, Look at my Crazy Hats. I'm obsessed with Catherine's wardrobe right now, and all for the wrong reasons.
And speaking of wardrobe obsession, you know that nobody inspires me like the quite like the Olsen twins do; and today is their birthday. Their outfits this week were in no means their best ever, but as it's their birthday it's only fair to have a look at Mary-Kate and Ashley's wardrobes this week. Happy birthday MK and Ashley!

Hit and Miss of the Week: Emma's Playsuit

This week is almost as good as last weeks Hit & Miss. I even tried to find some more awful outfits to put into the round-up, but there were far too many interesting ones to include. Such as Rihanna's Dolce & Gabbana leopard print number, which I think is her best look of the year so far.
Then there was Sienna Miller, rocking her new fringe and hanging out with old friend Matthew Williamson. Mary-Kate then treated us to a fantastic example of Olsen styling, which I'm still obsessing over, and Emma Watson took to the red carpet in a Karl Lagerfeld playsuit. A great week, no? Well, great if you ignore Whitney Port's grand display of very 'blah' outfits and Jessica Simpson's latest red carpet mistake.

Mary-Kate at Whole Foods




I love Mary-Kate Olsen's all black Whole Foods look. The floppy hat is oh so cool. For some reason pictures of the Olsen's doing really mundane things like grocery shopping fascinates me. I love their style so much I suppose I just imagine they live in this alternative fashion universe where their days are simply spent looking insanely cool. Clearly that's not how it is, and they sometimes need to re-stock the fridge just like the rest of us.
Next time I nip to Tescos I'm so wearing shades and a floppy hat...

Wearing Sunglasses in the Dark

I only saw the images of Beyonce having dinner with Jay-Z after I posted the weekly Hit & Miss. I wish I'd seen them before, because I love love love Beyonce's pink Chanel jacket. There's something a little ironic about the styling, and I don't think I've ever seen Beyonce wear Chanel before. It's a nice match.



Obviously, because she's a superstar she wears sunglasses in the dark. I don't think I've ever worn sunglasses at night before. I'd look like a right idiot. But I do hope that one day I'm important enough to wear shades in the dark and simply look cool.
After all, Mary-Kate and Ashley both turned up to the opening night of a play on Broadway wearing sunglasses last night.



I wonder if they took them off to watch the show? MK kept her shades on throughout the Burberry A/W 2010 collection, so you never know...
And it's getting harder to tell them apart at the moment, but I think it's Ashley in the shorter dress... Does anyone know who it's by? I love it.

Holy Moly! I Missed an Olsen Interview?

I still haven't picked up a copy of the S/S 2010 issue of LOVE magazine. Well, actually, I lie. I have picked up many copies, in various newsagents, but because I still haven't been able to find the Daria cover I don't actually own a copy.
I think now I'll have to buy the next copy I see, Daria or no Daria, because there's an Olsen interview in the issue. How did I not know this until today? I have no idea. But I guess it's better late than never, right?



The accompanying pictures are beautiful. I love the cobalt blue jacket by Stella McCartney that MK wears. A very similar style is available at net-a-porter, for those who have a spare £1,135 to spend on a jacket. It looks stunning with the yellow shirt - you've gotta love a bit of contrasting colour action. And Ashley obviously looks gorge in the Lanvin dress.
I'm off to buy LOVE magazine...

Elizabeth and James - Thank You

Yesterday I arrived home to an amazing package from the lovely people at Elizabeth and James, thanking me for my constant support of everything Olsen. As you know, I am a complete sucker for anything Mary-Kate and Ashley wear, design or do, so it was really incredible to be gifted with two beautiful pieces from the S/S 2010 Elizabeth and James collection.



The Fete dress (which I have in black) has the most amazing puff-sleeves. I think I will definitely wear it for my birthday next month. And the Iris blouse is the most delicate dreamy thing you could ever imagine. I'm going to pair it with ultra-skinny combat trousers, heels and maybe even a Starbucks - just to give it that added Olsen touch.
When it gets warm enough I'll try to do an outfit post outside (there is no space in my house to conduct a mini photo-shoot) to show off the real beauty of the clothes.
But for now I would just like to say a great big thank you to the lovely people over at Elizabeth and James for sending me these gorgeous pieces. I adore them.

Hit and Miss of the Week: London's Calling

London Fashion Week officially ended on Wednesday, which now seems like ages ago, but it left behind some beautiful runway presentations and a host of great celebrity spots as well. As last week London was the city to be seen in.
Tuesday's Burberry show brought the golden Hollywood girls such as Kate Hudson out (who, by the way, looked super cute). And the ELLE Style Awards didn't just lure the Olsen's to the red carpet; super-super-model Naomi Campbell also made an appearance in a McQueen dress.
And we can't forget Olivia Palermo, who along with the slightly less-impressive Nicola from Girls Aloud, was on the front row at just about every London show. Will we be seeing her in a bit of Christopher Kane or Mark Fast soon, I wonder...

NOTE: As you can see naked Madonna is back as the header. I always intended on bringing her back at some point (and have had many people emailing about her return), but felt like shaking it up a little with the pizza image instead - which was also taken by the fabulous Steven Meisel. I Knew It!

A few weeks ago Lorraine Candy, the editor of UK ELLE tweeted a famous-twosome had confirmed they would attend the ELLE Style Awards. I instantly thought of Mary-Kate and Ashley, and when they flew into London the other day I knew a red carpet appearance was on its way. And it was a good one.



Ashley wore vintage Christian Lacroix and to-die-for Fendi heels. While Mary-Kate wore Lanvin and carried a Proenza PS1 clutch. Annoyingly woman of the year didn't go to either of them, instead it was won by the boring Kristen Stewart.




I'm sure they'll both be front row at the Burberry show this afternoon. Devastatingly I 've been invited for a second time but won't be able to go because I'm at Topshop all day. NYC: The Row

It was inevitable that I would like The Row's A/W 2010 collection. I am a die-hard Olsen fan. So much so that my friends are forever making fun of me. But as far as I'm concerned there are stylish celebrities and then there are the Olsen's. They are in a league of their own.
It's the first time that Mary-Kate and Ashley have shown their collection at New York Fashion Week, and I liked the collection. It played to that luxe 90's vibe that Ashley is so into, and reminds me of Calvin Klein, Jil Sander and Helmut Lang.
There weren't any pieces that were out-of-this-world exciting, but The Row is about timeless, well-made wardrobe basics. And they do it well.






Above Ashley and Mary-Kate take their walk, and - this has nothing to do with anything, but it's so terribly cute - Ashley poses at a NYC party with her BF Justin Bartha. She looks good in animal ears.
And on the subject of Justins, Justin Timberlake shows his William Rast collection in New York tonight (is it me or is every other show in NYC this season created by a celebrity?)
He's like the opposite of Victoria Beckham - quitting music for fashion was the best move she ever made, but JT should really make another album instead of designing pants.

Something Light Hearted

After the horrible news about McQueen's death yesterday, a day spent wearing head-to-toe black, a rushed post about Jessica Alba this morning and a slow internet connection now, I've just about had it. So it's lovely to see this image of the adorable Lazaro Hernandez squashed between Margherita Missoni (wearing a starfish) and Mary-Kate Olsen (wearing a Gorilla-like coat) at the amfAR New York Gala.



I needed some Olsen-ness to lighten the mood. And is anyone else totally feeling headscarves now? Margherita can make anything look cool. No wonder her and Mary-Kate are friends...

Mary-Kate's Amazing Coat

Yesterday the Olsen twins were in New York promoting their affordable clothing collection Olsenboye (Ashley says they trademarked the name Olsenboye when they were only 14) for JCPenny. Mary-Kate was wearing the most amazing coat on her way into the GMA studios, I'm actually suffering from coat envy. And she seems to love it as much as I do, as she left it on throughout their interview.



It's interesting to watch the interview, as they both seem a lot more talkative than they usually are in interviews. I always get the impression they'd rather not do them at all. They also talk through the Olsenboye collection, which so far I'm not really feeling. I'm much more into Elizabeth & James. But see what you think.



And the other great Olsen fashion moment so far this year was Ashley in the ruffled Erdem mini dress. I'm still completely in love with this look, and I just tracked down this look-alike on ASOS by French Connection.


It's obviously no match for Ashley's frock, but it will make a fabulous party dress for the summer. And I do love the colour.

That's A Wrap

It's crazy to think that we're not just at the end of a year - but the end of a decade too. I've thought about it long and hard and these are the women I think have made the most impact in fashion this decade.


No one beats Mossy, she was the Queen of the Noughties. We're still all dressing in the Moss uniform of blazers, skinny jeans and ballet pumps. Even though there are other celebrities that inspire my wardrobe more than Kate I cannot deny her fashion power.


Love her or loathe her Victoria Beckham still holds the title of 'fashion icon'. At least she's ending the decade without those terrible hair extensions that started the WAG era.


You know they're my favourites! Normally I don't like to put MK and Ash together as a pair, but I think they've both made an equal impact on the way we dress this decade. I'm not ashamed to admit I copy their style.


I wouldn't say Sienna is currently as important as she was around 2004/5, but she still tops the best dressed lists. The Sienna obsession began with the above outfit and hopefully she'll produce some more iconic looks in the next ten years.


I find it hard to separate Carrie Bradshaw from Sarah Jessica Parker, but both women have influenced our wardrobes. Carrie is fashion escapism at its very best. I still dream about that pink de la Renta dress.
