The Hills is Bizarre to the End

Fans of The Hills will know what I mean when I say the show has always been strange. It took an even weirder turn in the sixth and last season as Speidi discovered the "healing powers" of crystals and befriended six-year-old Enzo. And although it was never quite the same once Whitney and Lauren left, I will miss The Hills now that it's gone for good.
But as it's The Hills it had to go out on a weird note, and MTV UK have come up with what is possibly the most bizarre method of saying goodbye to the show. They want fans to submit their "Goodbye Audrina" messages to their facebook page, and they will then print these messages onto a dress for her to wear at the UK final screening.

I don't quite know what Audrina did to deserve this, or whether or she will be forced to wear the dress; it's such a strange idea. But if you want to leave Audrina a message you can HERE.
Personally I won't miss Audrina much (not that I dislike her or anything) but there are some things I will genuinely miss about The Hills:

• The phrase "you're a shady person" - the Lauren Conrad classic
• Whitney Port and her amazing collection of headbands

• The fact Spencer still calls Lauren 'LC', even though the rest of the world stopped that after Laguna Beach
• Justin Bobby - the yummiest Hills boyfriend ever, despite the questionable sense of style

• The Teen Vogue cupboard and the wonderful Lisa Love
• The flawless manicures 24/7 - if anyone ever finds a chipped nail in an episode of The Hills you deserve a medal!
• Stephanie Pratt, who I grew to love after she bought an Anya Hindmarch clutch because "it will go really well with a spray-tan." It's like she stepped out of Clueless...

Ah The Hills how I will miss you.... What do you think of the kooky idea to send Audrina a goodbye dress? And what will you miss most about The Hills?

Chuck Doesn't Look Dead To Me

Gossip Girl fans will know that the cast is shooting the new series at the moment, and from the looks of things Chuck is not dead. I knew Chuck wouldn't die because 1) this is Josh Schwartz and in his world people don't die when they get shot - remember Trey in the O.C? - and 2) the whole Chuck and Blair will-they-won't-they scenario is what holds the show together.
So Chuck is alive, and not just alive, he's dating Clemence Poesy. I know I'll anger the Chuck and Blair fans here, but how cute do they look together?

I love Clemence's style, so I'm super excited about her guest appearance. I hope she stays around for a few episodes like Hilary Duff did, because we need the style inspiration.
The scenes they were filming yesterday took place outside Diane von Furstenberg's NYC store and apparently the episode will centre around Fashion's Night Out, which takes place this year on September 10th. It's mighty unlikely but imagine if Anna Wintour made a guest appearance too. That would be TV gold.

Is it Bye Bye Whitney?

Rumours are circling the internet that MTV has canceled The City. It's one of the few fashion/reality shows that I've never really taken too, so I'm not upset by this news. But it does leave the question what will Whitney do next?

When Whitney departed from The Hills (in that amazing hairband) I expected her to quickly out-shine Lauren Conrad, as Whitney was everyone's favourite 'intern', but The City left me majorly disappointed (that was mostly down to Jay) and I soon got bored of Whit.
Of course Whitney has her clothing line, large fan base, and more importantly she seems to be pretty tight with Kelly Cutrone off camera as well as on, but does the future hold for Whitney? And more importantly, what will Olivia Palermo do now? Here are the most likely options...

The Book Deal: I'm sure Whitney will be able to score a book deal like Lauren Conrad. Possibly giving advice on interning/making it big in NYC. Although regular interns don't have MTV paying their rent, following them around 24/7 and getting them in at DVF, so her 'advice' may not be so valuable. Olivia, on the other hand, seems more likely to land a magazine column (possibly at US ELLE or even Grazia) handing out style tips. That could be a very successful venture for OP.

The Hair Advert: Whitney and Olivia are blessed with salon perfect hair around the clock. Both of them are deserving of a shampoo advert and I think they are equally as likely to get a modeling contract. Personally I prefer Olivia's locks, but that's just me...


The Exercise DVD: Olivia is fashion skinny, but Whitney has the super-toned LA body. I always thought Lauren Conrad would end up making an exercise DVD, so maybe her and Whitney should team up? They did work out together in The Hills, after all...

A Move to London: For a while I've thought Olivia might move to the UK, and if The City did end now would be the perfect time. She recently did a 'Tody I'm Wearing' piece for vogue.co.uk, has modeled for  Matches boutiques label Freda, attended London Fashion Week in February and is constantly papped in Topshop and Mulberry.

And Finally... Looking Damn Cute: I love Whitney, I really do. But the beauty of Olivia and her boyfriend Johannes Huebl, topped off with the adorable fluffy puppy is unbeatable. It sounds harsh, but I think Olivia will end up being the break-out star of The City. But if all else fails there's always I'm a Celebrity - who wouldn't love to see Olivia doing a Bushtucker Trial?

Following the Yellow Brick Road

I'm not a fan of talent shows like the X Factor or Britain's Got Talent, I find them so boring. But I've recently got really into the BBC's Over The Rainbow. It's pretty much like American Idol and co, except on Over the Rainbow a group of girls perform each week in a bid to win the role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, which is coming to the West End. It may not sound very exciting but it's so ridiculously camp that I've quickly become obsessed.
The main reason it's so good is because each week the girl voted off has to perform a goodbye song in the most bizarre setup imaginable. The rest of the Dorothy's sing their goodbyes, then take the shoes from the loosing girl (why I have no idea) and hand them to Andrew Lloyd Weber, who is the head judge. The evicted girl then sits on a cardboard moon (without any shoes) and floats away singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It's hard to explain just how hilarious it is without actually seeing it, so here's a clip:



I think every TV show should end like this from now on. It's completely ridiculous but oddly riveting at the same time. Will they fall off the moon? What if they refuse to give up their shoes? It's tense viewing.
My favourite potential Dorothy is Danielle, who you can see below singing Mambo Italiano. I would never go as far as actually voting - oh no - but I do hope she wins as I'd hate to see her shoe-less on a cardboard moon. She's too good for that kind of treatment.



And while this all might seem completely without context just take a look at the S/S collections and you'll see that Dorothy is actually a huge inspiration this season. There were bunches at Prada, socks and heels worn on the Burberry runway, gingham dresses popped up at Christopher Kane and Totto-esque dogs made an appearance at Mulberry. It's Dorohty all over.



As Dorothy's the clear pin-up girl for S/S 2010 it's a shame that the actual costumes on Over the Rainbow are so naff. If only the BBC had the budget for Christopher Kane...

The Times says SATC is not a stylish movie

Now I'm not going to hate on Sex and the City, or the fantastic Patricia Field, you know I am a massive fan of both. But I wasn't that into the fashion in the first SATC movie. Maybe it was because every outfit had been photographed to death before the film even came out, or maybe it was just too 'trendy'. Either way Carrie's wardrobe lacked the unpredictable magic that it had on TV.
Today in The Times Lisa Armstrong and the rest of the fashion team compiled their list of the 25 most stylish films of all time, and, shock horror, SATC isn't included.


On the SATC movie they write: "With the exception of the inimitably chic Parker, who could — and has — made boob tubes look glamorous, the other three co-stars appear like a bunch of drag queens on a day trip to Bluewater."

They also comment on the "Hollywood hype machine that insists on behaving as if every member of the female gender is now in the grip of a frenzy of anticipation at the prospect of watching SJP & Co gyrate across the screen in their designer outfits."

I'm a hardcore SATC fan, but even I can't shake up any enthusiasm for the above outfits from the upcoming sequel. If they end up in the movie I may actually cry.

A Reality TV Winner

Those of you living in the UK may remember in 2006 Elizabeth Hurley decided to do her own spin-off of Project Runway, Project Catwalk. It ran for more than one season but Elizabeth only presented the first, which was also the only one I watched.
The winner, Kirsty Doyle, was always one of my favourites and the designer I was hoping would win in the final. It's nice to see she hasn't slipped into reality TV oblivion and is actually still designing. My favourite piece from the collection is the cream strapless dress [above right] which I would love love love to see on Thandie Newton. I've noticed that when I really like a dress I always want to see Thandie wear it, it's rather random. But wouldn't she just look fantastic in it with her hair tied back?
