"Don't do that. Don't mock the clothes."

Tonight is the night people. I am finally (and rather reluctantly) going to see the Sex and the City sequel. I know I'll hate it. My mum went to see it the other day and simply said "you'll loathe it."
But I figure if I'm gonna hate on it as much as I have been I'm going to have to see it. Otherwise it's just not fair.
I've heard many negative things about the film so far (that there is no plot, that the characters are like cartoons, that it's offensive to other cultures... the list goes on and on) but the thing everyone has been telling me is that the clothes SUCK.
Sex and the City and bad costumes? This cannot be, can it? In the fear that it may be true I've had to post one of my favourite Carrie Bradshaw outfits of all time. Every time I watch this episode her dress makes me smile.
And in other SATC news there are now rumours Miley Cyrus will play Carrie in the Sex and the City prequel. Please no. Just no. Make it stop! It makes me as angry as Carrie is in this scene below:



At least I know I can return to the safety of my SATC boxsets if the movie is as bad as everyone is reporting. I've recently been re-watching season three, which is my favourite, and it really never gets boring.

Sex and the City Hits London

The Sex and the City cast worked the red carpet in London last night for the UK premiere of Sex and the City 2. Sarah Jessica Parker looked wonderfully over-the-top in an Alexander McQueen dress and a Philip Treacy hat. This is the exact combination she wore to the London premiere back in 2008. She got quite a lot of stick back then for her OTT headwear (I remember David Letterman making fun of it on The Late Show) but I find it rather flattering that she always saves her kookiest premiere outfit for London.



At the NYC premiere it was Kristen Davis who stole the show, especially in her vintage Balmain dress, but I wasn’t as keen on her London look. Although I do like that she has stuck with vintage dresses throughout the promotional tour.
Cynthia Nixton chose a lovely shade of blue for the red carpet (her dress was by Narcisco Rodriguez) but it wasn’t much to get excited over. Especially next to SJP’s beautiful McQueen dress.


Kim Cattrall also went for a simple design, choosing a strapless black gown by Thierry Mugler, but she looked amazingly hot. Much better than her NYC look. She was really working the red carpet last night, Samantha Jones style...

The SATC Story That Never Ends

I'm sorry if you're completely bored of reading about Sex and the City by now. I am a little bit, and the film isn't even out yet. But on Monday I was invited to try the SKYY Vodka SATC cocktails at the Waldorf Hilton and they were very yummy. The five cocktails all have SATC themed names, from "New York Star" to "Park Avenue Princess" - but favourite was "Blonde Ambition".
The SATC/SKYY Vodka collaboration came about as Patricia Field has designed a limited edition SKYY Vodka Sex and the City 2 bottle, which is available at Harvey Nichols.


I must admit I'm sick of all the SATC collaborations hanging about at the moment (yesterday I received an email telling me I could 'get the SATC look at Sainsbury's - urm no thank you) but the SKKY Vodka collaboration sort of makes sense, as Field says, "so many of Sex and the City’s most stylish moments have been when the ladies were out in Manhattan, dressed to the nines, bonding over fun cocktails.” So if you're going to see the sequel with a group of girlfriends you may as well have your own SATC moment.

And in other SATC news (lets get it all into one post, hey?) Sarah Jessica Parker was on the Letterman show last night. She always gives a great interview on Letterman, and here's a cute little clip of her talking about James Wilkie last night. I still love the name James Wilkie.

The Sex and the City After Party

I wasn't overly keen on any of the looks the SATC ladies wore to last nights NYC premiere, but the after party brought out some interesting dresses. Kristen Davis, who I think was the best dressed at the actual premiere, changed into a a vintage Balmain dress and Sarah Jessica Parker slipped into a lace Elie Saab number.



I feel like SJP could definitely have pulled off a shorter hemline, this dress looks a little too long, but the Nicholas Kirkwood's were a great choice of shoe. They seem to be her favourite pair at the moment - she was spotted wearing them last week too.
And Kristen simply looked beautiful in her sequined Balmain dress. This is the second time Kristen's worn a vintage Balmain piece to an event this month (see her first dress HERE) and I'm becoming very envious of her vintage collection. I can't wait to see what Kristen will wear to the London premiere, she's on a roll at the moment.

The Times says SATC is not a stylish movie

Now I'm not going to hate on Sex and the City, or the fantastic Patricia Field, you know I am a massive fan of both. But I wasn't that into the fashion in the first SATC movie. Maybe it was because every outfit had been photographed to death before the film even came out, or maybe it was just too 'trendy'. Either way Carrie's wardrobe lacked the unpredictable magic that it had on TV.
Today in The Times Lisa Armstrong and the rest of the fashion team compiled their list of the 25 most stylish films of all time, and, shock horror, SATC isn't included.


On the SATC movie they write: "With the exception of the inimitably chic Parker, who could — and has — made boob tubes look glamorous, the other three co-stars appear like a bunch of drag queens on a day trip to Bluewater."

They also comment on the "Hollywood hype machine that insists on behaving as if every member of the female gender is now in the grip of a frenzy of anticipation at the prospect of watching SJP & Co gyrate across the screen in their designer outfits."

I'm a hardcore SATC fan, but even I can't shake up any enthusiasm for the above outfits from the upcoming sequel. If they end up in the movie I may actually cry.

The Weekend Report

After Easter I wouldn't be surprised if you're sick of chocolate, but KOKO by Cadbury have come up with an interesting new way to market chocolate. They've teamed up with Karin Herzog, creating a one-hour oxygen facial using KOKO chocolate.

And finally, the big story of the week: SATC 2. The extended trailer has been released, and while it does look rather entertaining I still think it was best left at season six. Also why is there so little of New York? Sex and the City is nothing without the actual city.


The promo for the movie is clearly in full swing now, even though it's not released for another month. SJP is the cover star of US Vogue's May issue (see a preview HERE) and I'm sure there will be many more magazine covers to follow.

Yesterday Sarah Jessica Parker was busy promoting SATC2, with Cynthia and Kristen, out in Las Vegas. Getting into the Carrie Bradshaw mindset she wore not one, but two fabulous frocks on the red carpet. Starting with a yellow Lanvin mini and then moving onto a black Marchesa number.



I'm not looking froward to the second movie at all, but I am excited to see what the four ladies wear as they're promoting the sequel. You can always count on SJP to rock a pretty dress.

Visible Undies

I'm sure most of you have seen the photos of Leighton Meester in a lace body with her bra visible below by now [if not scroll down]. The look would have made the Hit and Miss of the week but the images came out too late. When I first saw the photos my immediate reaction was bad. Lets be honest, those are not the best trousers to pair the top with. I really admire Leighton for experimenting, but I don't think this look worked as well as she hoped.


Visible underwear is always rather hit and miss, and annoyingly (or not - if you're Lady Gaga) it's a big trend for S/S 10. The problem with bra-flashing is that you never know how it's going to turn out until your boobs are on show and it's too late. You're far more likely to end up looking like Leighton than you are Carrie Bradshaw, no matter how much work you put in.


Carrie is the queen of the visible bra, and 9 times out of 10 her visible bra looks worked, because of Patricia Field's genius. In the book Kiss and Tell Patricia says "A bra is underwear, but a T-shirt used to be too. Before 1950 no man or woman would have worn a T-shirt out in public because that was underwear. Once James Dean and Marlon Brando did it the T-shirt became the most common form of top for everyone. I see the bra the same way. It is not something that needs to be hidden."

And hidden it is not. Bras and briefs are visible everywhere at the moment. At Dolce & Gabbana the lingerie was the clothing, while Marc Jacobs took into account the fact it might be rather cold to wear underwear only - so he kindly dressed his models in cotton shirts with satin bras on top.


I think the most subtle way to work this look (apart from merely flashing a colourful bra strap) is to work a lace top - Stella McCartney style. She sent her models out in halter neck lace tops tucked into denim skirts. It's casual but still flirty, and slightly more foolproof than flashing your bra.

The Crystal Bird Purse

The other evening I watched the episode of SATC where Mr Big gives Carrie the crystal duck purse. It's one of my favourites - I love season two. Then, to my surprise, I found some Judith Leiber crystal bird purses on Net-A-Porter. I'm not sure why I was so shocked to see them, I guess it's just because I'm used to seeing Mulberry in their bag section, not parrots.

I'm thinking the parrot should make an appearance in the SATC sequel. Perhaps Mr Big could give it to Carrie as an anniversary gift? There's also an owl, but I think the parrot has a lot more character, look at his cheeky little face.


Looking at the price tags though (the owl is £3,470 and the parrot is £4,680) I think a more suitable SATC storyline would be Carrie selling off her vintage duck purse to buy some new Manolos.
Mr Big will never know...

Freida Pinto in Christopher Kane:


At last nights GQ Man of the Year awards Freida wore one of my favourite dresses from the Christopher Kane F/W collection. I'm used to seeing Freida in designs which fall more into the glamorous category, but 'edgy' really works for her.

PPQ & Cadbury Get Together:


PPQ have designed two bespoke charms to be sold with special boxes of KOKO (milk chocolate truffle) by Cadbury. The chocolate is in stores nationwide now and the chocolates and the charm together retail at £20.

Does Anyone Want this Top?


I have watched this Vanessa Bruno Athé top get cheaper and cheaper. It first started off in the Net-A-Porter sale (this was about a year ago), it was on the Outnet the day in launched and it's still there now. Is Charlotte a Granny?


I had been looking forward to the first proper pictures of Kristen Davis on set of the SATC movie because Charlotte was arguably the best thing about the movie. Why is she dressed like my 90 year old Grandmother though? It's terrible. Also Cynthia (I was going to call her Miranda, are we naming them by actress of character at the moment?) looks amazing. Loving that dress.

Manolo

"If people talk to me about Sex and the City I get sick."

Manolo Blahnik tells The Sunday Telegraph about his disslike for the show. Guess that means you shouldn't tell him that Smith may come back for the second SATC movie if you run into him.

Not Impressed



I tried to refrain from blogging about the Sex and the City Movie filming going on at the moment because I hate the idea of a second movie. But then I saw the above image, which is beyond terrible. There are three possibilities for this look, they are:

A) There will be a flashback of Carrie from the 1980's. This idea sucks because however wonderful SJP is she doesn't look 20, not one bit, therefore it will look stupid. And they never did flashbacks in the show, mainly because the show wasn't cheesy.

B) This is how Carrie copes with the recession. If this is the case they may as well stop filming now.

C) This is a distraction technique used by the crew to make us think one of the above points. If so maybe they should stop wasting time and work on making a decent film - one with no corny or clichéd flashbacks from the past.

At least she later looked pretty in a nice purple dress.



I have to ask, does anyone actually care what happens next to Carrie, Sam, Charlotte and Miranda? I love the show soooo much but I really think enough is enough.

Mossy gets a Perm

My obsession with Kate Moss has died down, but I still get excited over a really great Moss cover, and W’s September issue is pretty damn fabulous. Not so much because of the Moss factor, but because of the perm.

I was born with very fine straight hair, I have tried many times to make it look voluminous and wavy but it just won’t budge (any tips are welcome). Because it is so straight it tends to look flat, boring and always the same. And because the grass is always greener I dream of curly hair.


Wavy beachy hair has been in fashion for a while now, but on the runways curls are starting to get supersized. For the Chanel Cruise 2010 show the models resembled Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons, with red hair curled tightly around their faces.


Then there was Christian Dior A/W 09 Couture where Kim Noorda had a bouncy bundle of ringlets on the top of her head. The super-perm looks fantastic on the runway and in editorials but I think the softer look translates better into real life.
You could always try scrunching (not that it works on my hair) like Sarah Jessica Parker did everyday to get Carrie's fabulous curls. She's my hair idol.

Glamour Model and the City?

I never wanted a Sex and the City movie, but like a dedicated fan I stuck with it and saw it twice. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either, not even half as good as it was on TV. The fact that they're making a second movie makes me really angry - it originally ended perfectly, we don't need anymore.

But nothing prepared me for the rumours that Katie Price aka Jordan is planning to audition for the sequel. A source told Grazia 'It is not 100% confirmed, but the part she is auditioning for is rumoured to be a sexy British nanny, potentially for Big and Carrie who are said to be moving to Britain as part of the story line.'

Yippee. Not.

Not only will the storyline revolve around Carrie changing nappies but we'll have to watch an ex glamour model trying to act. This is one rumour that better not have an inch of truth to it.
